Frequently Asked Questions
Within the heart of humanity lies the deep desire to explore the world around them. This desire drives us to travel beyond the safety of our homes and daily routines in search of unique experiences. At Boundless Expeditions, we believe we are endowed by our Creator to seek new landscapes and expand our understanding of the world; to meet and befriend brothers and sisters who may be very different on the outside, yet astonishingly similar on the inside.
With Boundless Expeditions, adventure travel is no longer just for the privileged few. Why would you invest your hard-earned money in a prepackaged vacation with a lot of glitz and no substance, when you could invest in an experience that will live with you for a lifetime?
From a practical standpoint, Boundless Expeditions offers exotic locations and unique itineraries. We are significantly more affordable than our competition but we do not short the voyager who joins us on our expeditions. In a nutshell, we believe we are the best travel investment around.
So what basics do we cover for the cost of your trip? Housing, food and ground transportation are generally people’s greatest concerns. Your housing is included and will reflect the historic and authentic culture of the places you travel. Safety is extremely important as is access to the local flavor of the community you are visiting. Breakfast and dinners are provided. Lunches are sometimes provided but are primarily your responsibility, depending on your itinerary. Ground transportation is covered for every venue.
Experiences are the most important aspect of what Boundless Expeditions provides for its voyagers. BE will help you absorb the traditions and culture of your location through one-of-a-kind storytelling, matchless participation as an insider rather than a tourist, and adventures that you will never forget. You may even make a lifelong friend.
But the most significant benefit you get from traveling with Boundless Expeditions is the Director who will personally lead your journey from sign-up until your return from the trip. Our Directors have been leading journeys around the world for years. Their expertise is not limited to the practical aspects of the locations you visit but in knowing the local secrets and understanding the particular needs you have as a traveler. Their years on the road will bring your travel event to a whole new level.
Boundless Expeditions vary quite a bit in their level of physical demand. We try to provide a variety of experiences for our voyagers including some moderately difficult hikes and walks in many of our locations. There is usually an alternate activity for those who are not comfortable with a physical challenge. In general, most BE trips have a fair amount of walking involved. It is not unusual for our BE teams to cover 5 to 8 miles of walking per day in a location like Italy, Belize or NYC.
Here is a little test to see if you have the proper endurance level for one of our journeys: Can you walk at least 2 miles in an hour without feeling winded or tired? If you can, you should be fine. We work very hard to provide trips for anyone who wants to join us. If you have any questions feel free to call our offices.
At Boundless Expeditions we look at food as an adventure waiting to be discovered. Most of our meals will reflect the culture where we are visiting. Breakfast will range from upgraded continental to full breakfast. Lunch, when provided, will range from a packed lunch on a heavy walk/exploration day to local fare. Most lunches are not provided but you will have a choice of local venues to choose from. Dinners are the heartiest meal of the day and may be prepared by locals or our BE staff. Most meals are balanced and tasty. Some snacks and special treats may be provided.
We will try our best to provide alternatives for special diets but BE cannot be responsible for people who have food allergies, vegan or vegetarian diets, or those who are extremely particular about what they eat. If you have special dietary needs you may want to bring substitute food for meals in which no alternatives are provided. If you are extremely picky, a Boundless trip may not be for you.
We try reflecting local custom and culture in the accommodations we provide. In most cases you will have a roommate, though you can request a room of your own for a bit more money (if an extra room is available). Before you sign up for a trip, call our offices and find out the exact accommodations for the trip you are interested in. In some rare cases, portions of the trip may be in bunk-style dorms (such as eco-lodges in Belize). For the most part, here is what we look for: unique and safe locations, comfortable beds, a common room for team gathering, and clean bathroom facilities. Internet accessibility is not guaranteed but often available. Laundry facilities are not guaranteed but sometimes available.
Depending on the type of expedition housing can range from:
- European Relaxed: unique, clean and safe hostel settings that range from dorms to shared rooms
- Camping Opportunities: such as cabins, tents or yurts
- Unique hotels or Bed and Breakfasts
- Monastic or Retreat Experiences
Inevitably, you will be on a journey with someone you do not know. BE is an all-inclusive organization that takes great pleasure in leading trips for people from every background imaginable. There is no certain type of person that signs up for a BE. The one common attribute in most of our BE travelers, however, is a sense of discovery and the passion for exploration into other cultures. One of your greatest risks in taking a BE with people you do not know is a that you might strike up a new friendship that lasts a lifetime.
You will be responsible for your own airfare. It is not included in the cost of your trip. Your Expedition Director will coordinate with the team about their airfare. In most cases they will let you know when and where you need to land on day one of the journey. Many times, most of the team will travel out of the country on the same flight.
Once you land at your location, Boundless Expeditions will take over. Ground transportation is covered unless you decide to go out on your own. If you are leaving the Expedition early or arriving late, you will be responsible for the ground cost of getting to the team or leaving for the airport, etc.
If you are on a Boundless Expeditions voyage when a country/location experiences a national crisis (political, weather related, etc.) there will be several options. Every participant is required to purchase extremely reasonable travel insurance from our provider. This insurance covers immediate evacuation during any situations which require evacuation from the U.S. consulate or local government. If a person has a physical condition that requires serious medical attention your travel insurance will cover immediate emergency medical evacuation.
There are no refunds for the case of evacuation due to circumstances beyond the control of Boundless Expeditions.
If a Boundless Expeditions voyage is canceled because a country experiences a national crisis (political, weather related, etc…) you will have some options.
- OPTION ONE: we will attempt to reschedule your trip to a new location during or as close to the same dates as the original trip. If you decline the new location you can get a refund (according to the cancellation chart- see Boundless Expeditions Financial Policies). If you accept the new location there will be no increase in cost.
- OPTION TWO: you can cancel your trip and apply all funds paid to another upcoming BE trip within a year of your original trip.
- OPTION THREE: you can cancel your trip with a 50% refund (according to the cancellation chart- see Boundless Expeditions Financial Policies).

Days will vary dependent on the location, itinerary and weather. We will create a unique itinerary but we will be open to the variety of interests within the group. Here is a typical day on a BE trip.
- On most days you can expect to set out about 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. usually after breakfast and a small group gathering time.
- We usually have a time of exploration in the morning with an introduction by your Guide or local expert.
- At around noon, we break for lunch. We will either eat at a particular local favorite or give you a chance to seek a place nearby. We will try to have lunch near an interesting area where you may explore something of your particular interest. Your Guide will help you find a direction that best fits you.
- We try to gather around 3:00 p.m. for another team exploration activity.
- Dinner falls somewhere between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at a local restaurant with interesting cuisine. We allow dinner to be casual and unrushed. This is a time to hear the stories you have collected throughout the day.
- The rest of the evenings are yours to relax.
